YarnTrail ("we", "our", "us") is an app for knitting and crochet projects on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. This policy explains what data is processed when you use YarnTrail and this website, by whom, and your choices.
1. Your projects stay on your devices and in your iCloud
Everything you create in YarnTrail – projects, counters, patterns (PDFs), photos, notes, yarn and tools, statistics, achievements and settings – is stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on, it is also synchronized through your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so it appears on your other devices. Data in your private iCloud account is handled by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy; we cannot see it.
YarnTrail has no user accounts, and we do not run servers that store your projects.
The Apple Watch app exchanges counter events and your active projects directly with your iPhone using Apple's WatchConnectivity. Widgets, the Live Activity and the Control Center control read and update your projects through storage that only YarnTrail and its extensions on the same device can access.
Photos and PDFs are only read when you choose them. YarnTrail does not access the rest of your photo library or files.
2. Export
When you export your data, YarnTrail creates a file on your device and opens the share sheet. Where the file goes is your choice; nothing is sent to us.
3. Purchases (Apple and RevenueCat)
The one-time YarnTrail Pro purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details.
We use RevenueCat to verify purchases and to restore them on your devices. RevenueCat receives the purchase transaction from Apple together with a random, anonymous app user ID created by the app. It does not receive your name, contact details or anything from your projects. If you downloaded YarnTrail from an Apple Search Ads campaign, Apple's privacy-preserving attribution token is shared with RevenueCat so we can see which search terms lead to purchases; this does not identify you. 4. Anonymous usage statistics (TelemetryDeck)
To understand how YarnTrail is used and to improve it, the app sends anonymous usage events to TelemetryDeck, for example that a counting session ended, how many rows were counted and from where (iPhone, Watch, Live Activity), which features are used, and whether the purchase screen was viewed. These events never contain project names, notes, pattern contents, photos, yarn or pattern names, file names or anything else you type. TelemetryDeck uses a hashed, anonymous identifier and does not track you across apps. See the TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy.
You can turn this off at any time in YarnTrail's Settings. When it is off, the statistics service is not started at all.
5. Notifications
If you turn on reminders, YarnTrail schedules local notifications on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
6. No advertising and no tracking
YarnTrail shows no ads, contains no advertising or tracking SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites.
7. This website and the support form
This website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. It sets one cookie that remembers the language you choose.
When you send a message through the support form, your name, email address, message and the page language are sent by email to us using the email service Lettermint. We use them only to answer you, and we delete the email when it is no longer needed. You can also email us directly instead.
8. Children
YarnTrail is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Your choices and rights
- Turn off anonymous statistics in Settings.
- Turn off iCloud for YarnTrail in the Settings app on your device to keep your projects on that device only.
- Delete all YarnTrail data by deleting the app from your devices; data in your iCloud account can be deleted in your device's iCloud settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data held by us or by the services above. Contact us and we will help.
